  1. Court, Players, & Equipment

    1. The game will be played by teams of 4 players each.

    2. Each MATCH will consist of best 2 out of 3 games.

    3. Each team is allotted one timeout (30 seconds) per GAME.

    4. The first two games will be played first to 21 points, rally scoring, win by 2. There will be a 25 point cap. The third game, if necessary, will be played to 15 points, win by 1.

    5. Prior to the game, there will be a coin toss between captains. The winner of the coin toss will choose offense, defense, or side.

      1. There will be a second coin toss if teams enter into game three of a match.

    6. All jewelry must be removed prior to play. Players may only wear soft, pliable pads on legs, knees, or ankles.

    7. Players must wear athletic attire with tennis shoes.

    8. Game balls will be provided.

    9. Substitutions may occur during any dead ball; however, a starter and their substitution may only replace each other.

      1. Exception: injuries.

 

  1. Definition of Playing Terms

    1. Wallyball is a self-officiated sport. Captains will be required to sign a verification form each game, and the form must be turned into the staff immediately following the game.

    2. The ball shall be considered dead whenever it hits the ceiling or floor or the opponent’s back wall during a return.

    3. For a serve to be considered legal, the serve must stand within one arm’s length of the back wall.

      1. Prior to the serve, the score must be announced by the server.

      2. Serves must go over the net, and serves are allowed to touch the net.

      3. Serves may touch one side wall, but not the back wall.

      4. The receiving team may not attack or block the serve.

        1. A front player may return a serve so long as both feet are firmly planted on the ground.

    4. The ball may only hit ONE wall in between touches.

    5. Players are not allowed to touch the ball twice consecutively.

    6. Balls that pass between the net and the wall are considered out of bounds, and the other team is awarded a point.

    7. A player may step on the center line; however, if he fully crosses the line, the play becomes dead, and the other team is awarded a point.

    8. Players attempting to block may reach across the net but shall not contact the ball until the opponent strikes the ball in an attempt to hit the ball over the net.

      1. When a player hits the net, the play is dead, and the other team is awarded a point.

        1. Only hair may legally contact the net.

    9. Back row players may not attack the ball within the 3 foot line.

    10. A team is allotted 3 hits each play before the ball must be returned.

      1. Players may not lift, hold, carry, or scoop the ball.

      2. A player may not kick the ball.

      3. A block is not considered a hit.
