Basketball

  1. Game, Field, Players, & Equipment

  1.
    1. The game will be played by teams of 5 players each.

      1. Each team must have a minimum of 4 players at the start of each game to start. Game time is forfeit time. Failure to provide 4 players at game time will result in a forfeit.

      2. You may finish a game with less than 4 players as long as the referees determine you still have a chance to win, and no one’s safety/wellbeing is being compromised (injuries only, not due to sportsmanship issues).

    2. Each team has a designated captain. This person is the only person who is to approach officials throughout the game.

    3. Prior to the game, there will be a captains’ meeting with the officials to discuss the upcoming game.

    4. All players must wear matching colored jerseys. If teams do not have jerseys, pennies will be provided by Kings Bay Sports.

    5. All jewelry must be removed prior to play. Players may only wear soft, pliable pads on legs, knees, or ankles.

    6. Game balls will be provided; however, game balls CANNOT be used for warm-ups.

    7. Only players are allowed to be on the score table side. All other individuals are required to sit in the stands.

      1. Players on the sideline are required to sit with the exception of the captain.

  1. Periods, Time Factors, Substitutions

  1.
    1. Games will consist of (2) twenty minutes halves.

      1. The clock will stop in the last two minutes of the second half.

    2. The length of halftime will be five minutes.

    3. The clock will run continuously with the exception of timeouts, injuries, and at the officials’ discretion.

    4. There will be no overtime during regular season.

    5. Teams get two timeouts per half, and timeouts do not carry over from period to period.

      1. Only captains and players on the court may call a timeout.

      2. Timeouts are one minute in length.

    6. During the playoffs, we will use overtime.

      1.
        1. Each overtime will consist of a three minute period.

        2. Teams will be allowed one timeout per overtime.

        3. Overtime will run continuously with the clock stopping the last one minute of each overtime period.

    7. Substitutes should go to the score table and get down, so the scorekeeper may still see the game.

      1. Wait until the referee waives you on the court before entering as a substitute.

  1. Scoring

  1.
    1. There will be a scorekeeper present at each game. It is the captains’ responsibility to turn in a list of present players WITH THEIR NUMBER to the scorekeeper TEN minutes prior to the jump ball.

      1. First and last names required.

      2. No nicknames.

    2. Mercy Rule: When a team is up by 30 points in the last five minutes or 20 points in the last two minutes, the game will be called.

      1. If the officials think a team is playing down to prevent mercy rule, the officials may call the game at that point due to their discretion.

  1. Definition of Playing Terms

  1.
