Team Names

Teams will not be allowed to utilize initials to describe their team name in an effort to reduce the possibility of a team’s name offending other participants, spectators, officials, and/or staff. Additionally, teams will refrain from using any team names with sexual innuendoes. The Sports Coordinator will make the final decision on any potentially vulgar or offensive team names.

Mercy Rule

Most sports have a mercy rule in place which brings the game/match to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team.  This is to avoid teams becoming frustrated when a team “runs up” the score on them.  More injuries and fights occur during this period, and therefore the game/match is over.  The referees also can stop a game early if in their opinion a team is purposely stalling, not trying to play competitively, or “playing around” with the losing team, in order to avoid a game reaching the mercy rule.

Equipment

Kings Bay Sports will provide some of the equipment needed for the various activities. It is the responsibility of the captains/participants to find out before the event what equipment is provided and what the participants are expected to bring.  Participants are expected to return all equipment loaned to them by the Intramural Program. Any lost or stolen equipment owned by Kings Bay Sports will be reimbursed by the team who rented the equipment.

Jewelry is not allowed to be worn by participants during most Kings Bay Sports events.  However, medical or religious items may be worn as long as it’s taped to the body, underneath the clothing.  Flip flops, sandals, boots, and five-finger shoes (or anything closely related) are not allowed during events.  Non-marking (for indoor sports), closed-toed, athletic shoes are required for all events.  Specific sports have their own specific requirements regarding some equipment, so make sure to check the specific rules for that sport.

Jerseys

For Intramural Sports each team should have matching, numbered jerseys for every player. Legal numbers are limited to 0-99.  A team can’t have two or more players with the same number. A team will forfeit a game if they do not have proper jerseys.  TAPE CANNOT be used for numbers.  Numbers must be written or printed, and legible.  In the event that two teams who play each other wear the same colored jerseys, the away team will be asked to wear pennies.  For Flag Football, jerseys must be long enough to be tucked in the shorts or must be short enough to be 4″ above the waistband.

Teams who do not have matching jerseys will be required to wear pennies provided by Kings Bay Sports.

Technology and Media

Social Media

Social media will be used for all weather updates and cancellations throughout the season. Additionally, the Kings Bay Sports staff will use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for marketing, surveys, and posting pictures of the players.

Participants who post unsportsmanlike comments/material on any site are subject to league removal and/or banned from future participation in Kings Bay Sports.

League Apps

Kings Bay Sports will utilize League Apps for all scheduling of Intramural Sports and Average Joe’s Sports. The website is: www.kingsbaysports.leagueapps.com. Additionally, rules, policies and procedures, and sport photos will be posted on the site.

Trash

Each team is responsible for picking up any trash at their team bench and surrounding area. This includes: cigarette butts (dispose in cigarette canisters), bottles, cans, bags, wrappers, clothing, etc. If a team leaves trash on the court/field, it may affect the team’s sportsmanship rating.

Pets

Pets, other than service animals and Navy canines, are strictly prohibited from the softball complex and the football complex.

Prizes

Champion teams will receive a team trophy, and each player will receive a t-shirt. Runner-up teams will receive a team plaque.
