Each year, the Intramural Sports program hosts an awards banquet for the Captain's Cup and Military Athlete of the Year awards. In 2016, we are looking to make this event even better!
The 2015 Intramural Sports Awards Banquet will take place on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 1700 - 1830.
Sponsored by Domino's and catered by O'Brien's bunker, the banquet consists of dinner and various awards for active duty personnel. This year, the banquet is expanding to include the following awards in regard to the 2015 leagues hosted by Intramural Sports:
- Overall Military Athlete of the Year
- 2 Military Athlete of the Year Finalists
- Captain's Cup Award (Please see Captain's Cup page.)
- Sportsmanship Award
- MVP - 2015 Fall Flag Football
- MVP - 2015 Spring Softball
- MVP - 2015 Summer Basketball
This year, we are starting a new tradition with the Sportsmanship Award and MVP Awards. In Fall 2014, the sportsmanship policy was modified to encourage spirit d'couer and healthy competition between commands. We educated all participants on the code of conduct expected of all teams and their responsibility in respecting their teammates, opponents, MWR staff, officials, and spectators. Very quickly, we saw dramatic changes in the behavior exemplified by participants, and sportsmanship was better throughout the organization in all leagues. Therefore, we are looking to award the command with the best overall sportsmanship rating for the year at the 2015 Awards Banquet.
For our inaugural MVP Awards, we chose Spring Softball, Summer Basketball, and Fall Flag Football. MVPs were nominated by their team's captain, and each participant in the prospective leagues had the opportunity to vote as to who they felt should receive the award most. Althouh nominated inidividuals were made public, the overall winner will not be announce until the day of the banquet.
